Historical Background

The Panther tank, Sd.Kfz. 171, was developed during WWII to counter the Soviet T-34 on the Eastern Front. The Ausf.D was the first production variant, distinguished by its lack of a hull machine gun and cylindrical commander’s cupola. Despite mechanical challenges, the Panther was praised for its firepower, sloped armor, and mobility, making it one of the most effective German tanks of the war. Around 6,000 units were produced between 1943 and 1945.
