Wheels and Tyres

Choose the right wheels and tyres to improve your RC car’s grip, handling and overall performance. Whether you’re replacing worn tyres, changing your vehicle’s appearance or tuning it for a specific surface, selecting a compatible wheel and tyre setup helps deliver better control and a more enjoyable driving experience.

What to look for when choosing RC car wheels and tyres:

  • Vehicle compatibility: Check that the wheels and tyres are designed for your RC car’s scale, model and drivetrain. Confirm the wheel hex size, offset, diameter and width before ordering.
  • Tyre compound: Softer compounds provide increased grip, especially on smooth or low-traction surfaces, while harder compounds are generally more durable and suitable for high-wear conditions.
  • Tread pattern: Choose a tread suited to the terrain. Knobby tyres work well on dirt, grass and loose surfaces, while smoother or less aggressive tread patterns are often better for road and carpet driving.
  • Wheel size and fit: Make sure the wheel diameter and width provide adequate clearance around the suspension, steering components and body shell. Incorrect sizing can affect handling and cause rubbing.
  • Pre-glued or unglued: Pre-glued wheels and tyres are convenient and ready to use. Unglued options allow you to choose your own tyre inserts and bonding method.
  • Tyre inserts: Inserts help support the tyre sidewalls and maintain the correct shape during cornering. Foam inserts are available in different densities to suit various driving styles and surfaces.
  • Wheel material: Lightweight wheels can improve acceleration and suspension response, while stronger wheels are better suited to heavy vehicles, jumps and rough terrain.
  • On-road or off-road use: Select tyres designed for your intended driving environment. On-road tyres offer predictable handling on tarmac, while off-road tyres provide improved traction on dirt, gravel and grass.

Installation tips: Check the wheel hex and axle fit before installation, and ensure the wheels rotate freely without contacting the body or suspension. If fitting unglued tyres, use suitable RC tyre adhesive and allow it to cure fully. Balance your setup by fitting matching tyres and inserts, and inspect the wheels regularly for cracks, loose glue or excessive wear.
